Description
Day 2 will open with two keynote addresses, delivered by Lord Adair Turner in person and Mr Toshiyuki Miyoshi virtually.
Hugh Wheelan will then be in conversation with Tom Gosling and the audience about current challenges in green finance and investment:
At a moment when sustainable finance is facing headwinds, and some private sector actors have become less vocal and less ambitious on sustainability, this session will examine the assumptions and implications of market-driven narratives that emphasise the capacity of private capital, greater transparency and financial innovation to advance the transition. What role do they envision for private actors, and how does that square with economic and competitive realities? In contrast, what would a policy-led narrative for sustainable finance look like? Under such a narrative, who is primarily responsible for addressing economic feasibility gaps for key transition technologies, policymakers or the market? What is the role of financial institutions in accelerating the transition? Would a change in narrative provide a more realistic and resilient vision for the respective roles, and limitations, of policymakers, real economy companies and financial institutions? How could such a change in narrative come about?
