Biography
Sandra Zampa was born in Mercato Saraceno (Forlì-Cesena) in 1956. She graduated in 1981 at the University of Bologna in political science. A professional journalist, she worked in various newspapers since 1988.
She was head of the press office of the Prime Minister Romano Prodi (2007-2008) and co-founded the Democratic Party (DP).
She was first elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 2008, then again in 2013, when she assumed the vice-presidency of the Bicameral Childhood and Adolescence Committee. She was also a member of the Italian delegation at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, where she joined the Committee on Migration, Refugees and Displaced Persons.
From 2019 to 2021, she was undersecretary at the Ministry of Health, working during the critical phase of the Covid pandemic. In 2022, she was elected to the Senate and is currently member of the Standing Committee on Social Affairs, Health, Labour and Welfare and member of the Italian PACE delegation.
