Biography
Professor of Comparative Politics. Graduated from Ankara University, Faculty of Political Sciences. Earned an MA in Sociology from Middle East Technical University (METU) and a PhD from the University of Essex (UK). Conducted postdoctoral research at the European Institute of the London School of Economics.
Became Associate Professor of Sociology in 2006 and Professor of Political Science in 2012. His research focuses on comparative politics, social democracy, ideologies, nationalism and citizenship, political elites, and Turkish politics. He has published numerous academic articles and opinion pieces.
Served as Deputy Chair of the CHP R&D Science Platform (2010–2015) and as Vice Chair responsible for the CHP R&D Science Platform (2018–2023). Elected MP for Istanbul in the 27th term.
