Description
Ambassador Andrew Wood took up his duties as Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom to the OECD on 12 September 2025.
Prior to his appointment as Permanent Representative to the OECD, Ambassador Wood served as Head of the Office for Value for Money at His Majesty’s Treasury, where he was responsible for improving government efficiency, investment outcomes and reducing waste.
From 2019 to 2024, he served as Economic Counsellor at the United Kingdom Mission to the European Union in Brussels, overseeing a team focused on economics, tax, digital, and financial services. His work included contributing to the negotiations on the Services and Digital chapter of the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA).
Between 2017 and 2019, he held the position of Deputy Director for Strategy, Planning and Budget at His Majesty’s Treasury, overseeing strategic planning and managing a team responsible for high-priority projects. Prior to that, from 2016 to 2017, he was Chief of Staff and Deputy Director at UK Financial Investments (UKFI), where he managed human resources, finance, policy, and board secretariat functions, as well as supported preparations for the retail sale of Lloyds Banking Group and policy on RBS sales.
From 2014 to 2016, Ambassador Wood led the Financial Stability team at His Majesty Treasury, focusing on contingency planning for the UK financial institutions and managing government investments in RBS and Lloyds. Between 2012 and 2014, he was on secondment in Resolution Planning at Barclays Bank.
Earlier in his career, he served as Senior Policy Adviser in Financial Stability at His Majesty Treasury (2010–2012), and worked as an Economic Adviser at the Office of Climate Change within Defra/DECC (2008–2009).
Ambassador Wood holds an MSc in Economics from University College London, awarded with distinction, and a BA (Hons) in Economics from the University of Cambridge. Ambassador Wood will be joined by his husband, Mr. Dwayne Branch.
