Description
Emilio Calvano is an economist specializing in the industrial organization of digital markets, with a particular focus on algorithmic pricing, artificial intelligence, and competition. He is currently a full professor at Luiss University in Rome. He earned his PhD from the Toulouse School of Economics, where he is also associate faculty.
Over the course of his career, he has held several academic and research positions. Most notably he is a fellow of CERP Research policy network on AI and a visiting scientist at the Simons Institute for the Theory of Computing at the University of California, Berkeley.
His work lies at the intersection of economics and technology, mor erected work addressing how learning algorithms shape market outcomes and competitive dynamics.
Calvano has published in top scholarly outlets, including Science and the American Economic Review and his research has been influential in both academic and policy debates concerning the implications of artificial intelligence for market structure and consumer welfare.
He is currently the principal investigator of a European Research Council Advanced Grant focused on artificial intelligence and competition, where he leads a research agenda aimed at understanding the economic consequences of increasingly autonomous decision-making systems in markets.
