Course Synopsis
Financial investigation, the recovery of assets from criminal proceeds, the ability to track illegal financial flows, and the deprivation of economic support to criminal organisations are central pillars in a strategy to combat fiscal and financial crime. It also guarantees standards of fairness and compensation for victims and the State. The programme is aimed at investigators who already have proven experience in the field and seek to delve deeper into the most important modern aspects that contribute to greater effectiveness in this area. To this end, through presentations by experts, exchanges with participants and the examination of real case studies, we will seek to develop the following main topics:
• The strategic importance of asset recovery in a general policy to combat tax and financial crime.
• Investigation and asset profiling techniques: Access to general and specific sources of information; Open-Source Intelligence (OSInt) and validation of its output.
• Beneficial ownership framework.
• Financial intelligence and evidence. Other challenges and opportunities.
• International cooperation: legal and operational issues. Judicial overview and best practice in case presentation and management.
