Digital Ministerial

Fostering trust in cross-border data flows

Dec 15, 2022 | 9:30 AM GMT - 10:45 AM GMT

Room 1

Description

Cross-border data flows underpin many of today’s social and economic activities. However, they also amplify concerns in relation to privacy, personal data and intellectual property protection, digital and national security, and regulatory access. This has led to a range of national policy and regulatory measures that condition or limit the transfer of data abroad. In response, a growing demand has emerged for multilateral mechanisms to foster trust in cross-border data flows to support thriving and innovative global economies. This panel will be an opportunity for an open exchange on the policy challenges to achieve this goal, explore pathways to strengthen international cooperation in this area and identify possible roles for the OECD.
