Mr. Loyiso Tyabashe is the Group Chief Executive Officer of the South African Nuclear Energy Corporation (Necsa), appointed in January 2021. He is a professional engineer with over 20 years of technical and leadership experience in the nuclear industry. Tasked with leading a corporate turnaround, he has overseen the stabilisation of Necsa’s operations and its return to profitability within three years of assuming the role. Mr. Tyabashe began his career in the automotive sector before joining Eskom’s nuclear business, where he served in a range of strategic functions across Engineering, Operations, Maintenance Planning and Execution, Internal Oversight, and Project Management. Over the course of his career, he has gained extensive international exposure through engagements with the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO), and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), participating in global programmes and expert forums on nuclear energy. He is a member of the World Nuclear University Alumni Board and the KINGS International Advisory Board. Mr. Tyabashe holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering, both from the University of Cape Town, as well as an Executive Leadership Programme qualification from the UCT Graduate School of Business.
