Description

Her Excellency Governor Anne Mumbi Waiguru is an accomplished public servant with years of experience in economic and public policy, governance, and devolution. Before joining government, she notably worked as Assistant Vice President for Public Sector at Citi Bank in Kenya and Technical Advisor, Public Sector Reforms in President Mwai Kibaki’s government, on secondment by the World Bank, and later by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). She then joined the National Treasury as Head of Governance, and later became Head of the Economic Stimulus Programme and the Director of Integrated Financial Management and Information System (IFMIS) between 2007 and 2012. In 2013, Ms. Waiguru was appointed the First Devolution Cabinet Secretary, where she won a total of 15 awards, including the 2015 United Nations Public Service Award for her introduction of Huduma Centres. Ms. Waiguru was elected Governor of Kirinyaga County in 2017, becoming one of only three women governors in Kenya. Four months later, she became the first woman in Kenya elected Vice Chair of the Council of Governors. She was reelected as Governor in 2022, a feat attributed to her grassroot programs like the acclaimed Wezesha. Through Wezesha Kirinyaga County has so far supported close to 50,000 households to undertake various projects earning them $ 8.24 daily. Ms. Waiguru holds a master’s degree in Economic Policy from the University of Nairobi. Her Excellency Anne Waiguru is the Chairperson Council of Governor.
