Member, House of Assembly, Rivers State (1992–1993) Founder, Joint Oil Services Limited (1994) Special Assistant to the Minister of Petroleum Resources and Member of the Nigerian Delegation to the OPEC Conference (2003–2006) Chair of the Governing Board of the Oil and Gas Free Zone Authority Executive Governor of Bayelsa State (2007–2012) Chairman and Pro-Chancellor, Governing Council of the Nigerian Maritime University, Okerenkoko, Delta State (2018 to present) Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, August 2019 to present. Since assumption of office in August 2019, H.E. Timipre Sylva has championed the robust engagement with the National Assembly that saw to the passage and enactment of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA 2021), and has played a pivotal role in not only facilitating investments into the Nigerian oil and gas sector, but also positioning natural gas at the forefront of the country’s energy agenda. Most recently, the Federal Government launched its ‘Decade of Gas’ initiative, under the theme ‘Towards a gas-powered economy by 2030,’ in conjunction with its National Gas Expansion Program, aimed at bolstering gas development for domestic use and industrialization.
