Presentation

Tim Turner is currently working for the Trade and Development Bank of Eastern and Southern Africa (TDB) as senior advisor to the President with a focus on financial innovation. Tim recently retired as the chief risk officer (CRO) for the African Development Bank Group (AfDB). Under his leadership, the AfDB undertook a number of innovative credit risk transfer transactions, such as the first synthetic securitization of a development loan portfolio, to generate additional lending headroom for the Bank and to create new pathways for institutional investment in Africa. Before his appointment as CRO in 2013, Tim was the director of the AfDB’s private sector banking team. Under his leadership, the AfDB’s private sector portfolio grew tenfold to account for more than half of the Bank’s loan interest income. Tim began his career in finance in 1986 working for the international capital markets division of Smith Barney, an American investment banking firm. Tim holds a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Toronto and an MBA from IMD in Switzerland. He can work in both English and French. Tim was a member of the 1984 Canadian Olympic rowing team and is an instructor holding a fourth dan in Aikido.
