Description
Bruno is Director of a labour market and skills research division at Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) since 2021. In that role, he directs the assessment of labour shortages at the national level for about 500 occupations (known as the Canadian Occupational Projection System) and lead the participation of Canada’s federal government in the Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC) and the Programme for the International of Student Assessment (PISA). From 2000 to 2020, as senior economist at ESDC, he produced multiple policy research papers on labour market and skills-related topics such as labour force participation/retirement decisions of older workers, economic impact of immigration, and cognitive and socio-emotional skills and labour market outcomes. He also led the development of national data initiatives such as the Survey of Employers on Workers’ skills and the Survey on Quality of Employment. Prior to joining the federal government in 2000, he worked three years as a statistician in the Division of Biostatistics and Epidemiology at McGill University. He obtained a Master of Science in Economics from the University of Quebec in Montreal in 1996.
