PhD in Sociology from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), University of Paris. Holds the Chair of “Sociology of Change” at the Brazilian College of High Studies (CBAE) – Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). Served as Vice-Minister of the Environment, where she created the Commission for Sustainable Development and drafted the Brazilian Agenda 21. She was also Special Advisor to the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic, responsible for Federative Affairs. Served as Secretary of Culture of the State of Rio de Janeiro; City Councilor of Rio de Janeiro; and State Deputy. Latest book published: A Epopeia do Saneamento (with Márcio Santa Rosa).
