Description

Aysha Mawani is currently Director General, External and Trade Policy Branch at the Department of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada. In this role, she holds responsibility for policy issues focused on rural and regional economic development, international policy and artificial intelligence. Previously, she served as Director of Operations at Priorities and Planning in the Privy Council Office, where she was responsible for providing advice to the Prime Minister and the Clerk of the Privy Council on a broad range of horizontal economic policy files and supporting the Cabinet. Before joining the Privy Council Office, Ms. Mawani was at the Department of Finance, most recently as Chief of Staff to the Deputy Minister. Prior to joining the federal public service in 2010, Ms.Mawani worked on international health programming for UNICEF in New York. She has a PhD in Communications Studies from McGill University where she focused on global media policy and trade in the cultural industries.
