Description

Gustavo Segura Sancho is an economist and business administrator with 23 years of experience in the tourism and hospitality industry. He is an economics graduate of the University of Costa Rica and has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the INCAE Business School, with a specialization in sustainable development. Previously, Mr. Segura served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Islita Group, as well as Manager of the Hotel Asset Management Division of Cuestamoras, owners of the Marriott Los Sueños, Costa Rica Marriott Hacienda Belén, Andaz Península de Papagayo and Hyatt Andaz Pinares. He was additionally a member of the Costa Rican Tourism Institute’s Board of Directors, where he served as director for six years. Mr. Segura continues to serve as a member of the INCAE Business School in the field of sustainable tourism and has managed operations and consultancy services for organizations in the travel and tourism sector in several Latin American countries. Mr. Segura was appointed Minister of Tourism in July 2020, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. To overcome the impact of the global crisis on Costa Rica’s tourism industry, he has outlined three main objectives for the Ministry - to prioritize the gradual and safe reopening of international flights, generate useful tools to alleviate the financial problems of the companies in the tourism sector in the short term, and promote economic recovery measures while considering the importance of health management. By coordinating with the health authorities, Mr. Segura aims to maintain Costa Rica’s status as a leader and competitive player in international tourism.
