Description
Angela Simone, PhD, is the Scientific Coordinator of the International Initiatives at Bassetti Foundation, CSO based in Milan promoting principles and practice of Responsible Innovation for almost 30 years locally and internationally. She is a responsible innovation and science engagement expert, experienced in both public and stakeholder engagement processes.
Angela is currently the Coordinator of the EU H2020 funded project TRANSFORM, on inserting sound citizen engagement methodologies in the regional R&I policymaking, and the deputy-coordinator of the EU H2020 project MOSAIC aiming at designing and testing meaningful co-creation activities in the context of the EU mission “Climate-neutral and smart cities”, with a strong focus on fair rewarding for citizens engaged in co-creation exercises. Furthermore, she is leading the Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) journey for the researchers and innovators involved in the H2020 ENLIGHT project, addressed to produce innovative 3D bioprinter to make pancreatic tissues.
With a long experience in EU funded projects, designing, leading and performing science communication and responsible innovation actions (i.e. she was deputy coordinator of EU H2020 SMART-map project on bringing RRI to the EU industrial settings of synbio, precision medicine and 3D printing in biomedicine), she holds a seat in the Advisory Board of the Super MoRRI project which is creating a monitoring and evaluation system for RRI. Angela has been the scientific and executive coordinator of the Regional Forum for Research and Innovation, Lombardy region’s advisory board on the responsible governance of R&I from 2019 to July 2021 and has been contributing to the scientific design and implementation of the new Executive Master in Management of Research and Innovation of the Politecnico of Milan, coordinating and teaching several modules.
In 2018 was involved to comment and revise the “Ethical Framework for a Good AI Society” (Floridi et al.), being part of the Forum of the AI4People Initiative on behalf of Fondazione Bassetti. She regularly chairs public events on the impact of science and emerging technology on society (i.e. the session “Citizens and the Digital Society” for the “Towards a good AI society” conference, held at the European Parliament in November 2018) and lectures on RRI, science communication and citizen engagement (in the last years also in schools on genome editing technologies and their societal and ethical impacts).
Biotechnologist by training, hold an Advanced Master in Science Communication and a PhD in Law and New Technologies – Bioethics. During her Doctorate course was a Visiting Fellow of the Science, Technology and Society Program at the Harvard JFK School of Government.
