15th Forum on Responsible Mineral Supply Chains

Marc Ummel

Head of Unit Raw Materials

Marc Ummel has been responsible for commodities at SWISSAID since 2018. Improving the management and governance of natural resources, particularly in the gold sector, is one of the main areas of work of this non-governmental organisation. SWISSAID carries out advocacy and advisory work with industry actors, governments and international standards to strengthen existing regulations and create responsible supply chains. It conducts research and surveys to combat conflict minerals, increase the traceability of precious metals and improve corporate due diligence. SWISSAID also accompanies projects to support the formalisation of artisanal gold mines and their access to the international market. Before joining SWISSAID, Marc Ummel worked for the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation in the West Africa Division. He holds a master's degree in development studies from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva and works as a consultant and policy advisor in the field of responsible mineral procurement.
