Description
Christy Hoffman was elected as the General Secretary of UNI Global Union in 2018.
Her work at UNI followed more than 25 years of experience as a U.S. based trade unionist, beginning as a shop steward in a jet engine factory and later as legal counsel to several leading US unions.
Christy has been instrumental in the transformation of UNI’s work towards an emphasis on union growth across UNI sectors and has led the negotiations for many of UNI’s global agreements which secure the rights of the company’s global workforce. She was essential to the conclusion of the 2013 Bangladesh Accord on Fire and Building Safety and its renewal in 2018, as well as the successful enforcement of this agreement.
An influential advocate across the “business and human rights” landscape, she has campaigned to strengthen the international standards and tools which govern corporate accountability and the human rights of workers.
