Description

Sigrid Eeckhout holds a Ph.D. in Geology from the University of Ghent, Belgium. After more than 10 years of fundamental research in physical mineralogy at the University of Ghent, Belgium, the University of Ouro Preto, Brazil and the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility, France, she obtained an additional degree in Science Communication in London, UK. She has been working at ONDRAF/NIRAS for almost 15 years, where she is currently Head of the Communication and Participation Department. She has been a Bureau Member since 2017 and co-chair of the Forum on Stakeholder Confidence, NEA, since 2023, where she leads the Task Group on Youth Involvement. She is also a member of the Comité éthique et société, a pluralistic committee responsible for advising ANDRA's Board of Directors on how to take account of societal issues in its activities.

NEA membership consists of 34 countries representing 80% of the world's installed nuclear electricity generating capacity. The mission of the NEA is to assist its member countries in maintaining and further developing, through international co-operation, the scientific, technological and legal bases required for a safe, environmentally sound and economical use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. It strives to provide authoritative assessments and to forge common understandings on key issues as input to government decisions on nuclear energy policy and to broader OECD analyses in areas such as energy and the sustainable development of low carbon economies.
