Description

Eef Weetjens holds a Master in Bio-Engineering Sciences, specializing in Environmental Technology. Since 2001, she has been working as a scientific engineer at SCK CEN, Belgium's leading nuclear research center. Her primary focus has been on repository evolution and radiological impact studies for radioactive waste disposal programs. Notably, she has been supporting NIRAS/ONDRAF in safety report development for the surface repository licensing, playing a pivotal role in scenario development and performance assessment. Eef Weetjens has also made substantial scientific contributions to national and international projects addressing the impact of waste from advanced and small modular reactors (AR/SMRs). Since 2023, she assumed the role of Project Leader for a strategic environmental impact assessment concerning the long-term management of legacy radium-bearing waste.

NEA membership consists of 34 countries representing 80% of the world's installed nuclear electricity generating capacity. The mission of the NEA is to assist its member countries in maintaining and further developing, through international co-operation, the scientific, technological and legal bases required for a safe, environmentally sound and economical use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
