Dr. Ir. Ewoud Verhoef (1973) was born in Newton, Massachusetts, USA. He studied chemical technology at Delft University of Technology, where he also obtained his PhD in waste management. He joined the radioactive waste management organisation of the Netherlands, COVRA, in 2005 and was appointed deputy director in 2009. Ewoud is responsible, among other things, for communication, research and development at COVRA. Ewoud leads the Dutch national program for geological disposal and is chairperson of the ERDO association for multinational solutions for radioactive waste in Europe. He is a board member of the Nuclear Technology section of the Royal Institute of Engineers and the Netherlands Nuclear Society Foundation.

NEA membership consists of 34 countries representing 80% of the world's installed nuclear electricity generating capacity. The mission of the NEA is to assist its member countries in maintaining and further developing, through international co-operation, the scientific, technological and legal bases required for a safe, environmentally sound and economical use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
