Description

Ms. Pirjo HELLÄ works currently at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd as Principle Scientist in the Nuclear Waste Management Team. She is M. Sc. (Tech), Mathematics and has worked with topics related to disposal of nuclear waste management for 30 years. Her experience ranges from site and host rock studies to post-closure safety case of spent nuclear fuel waste at different phases of a nuclear waste management program, from site selection phase to construction and operation licensing. Recently she has contributed to the performance assessment and scenario formulation being part of the safety case supporting the construction licence application by Posiva and a generic safety assessment for a deep borehole disposal for NND, Norway. Her competence areas include safety case for spent nuclear fuel repository, definition of requirements to identify suitable rock volumes for the repository, evolution of the disposal site and the repository, integration of the results of the site characterisation and performance studies to the safety case.
