Description
Vaidas Matuzas has more than twenty years of experience in the nuclear field, acquired in both the academic and public sectors.
His career began in 2001 as an engineer in the Probabilistic Safety Assessment group at the Lithuanian Energy Institute. In 2004, he became involved in first decommissioning activities of the Ignalina NPP in Lithuania and subsequently worked on a variety of projects related to decommissioning and radioactive waste management.
Since 2013, Mr. Matuzas has been an Official of the European Commission in the Joint Research Centre (JRC). He works as a Scientific Officer at the JRC site in Petten (the Netherlands), dealing with nuclear safety, radioactive waste management, and decommissioning activities. Since 2015, he has been involved in JRC activities related to the implementation of the European (EURATOM) Directive on the responsible and safe management of spent fuel and radioactive waste, and since 2018, he has been coordinating Joint Research Centre's activities in this domain.
