Description

Lamia Kamal-Chaoui is Director of the OECD Centre for Entrepreneurship, SMEs, Regions and Cities. Under her leadership, the Centre’s 200+ analysts provide policy advice and capacity building in the fields of SME and entrepreneurship policy; Regional, urban and rural development; social economy; Multi-level governance, local finance and decentralisation; Tourism and Culture. The Centre provides data for thousands of cities and regions across hundreds of indicators, captured in the Regional and Metropolitan Databases and other platforms, including the World Observatory on Subnational Government Finance and Investment, as well as collecting novel data from innovative sources such as the OECD Laboratory for Geospatial Analysis. The Centre has also pioneered a number of global platforms to bring a diverse range of voices to the international debate, including the OECD Local Development Forum, the Champion Mayors for Inclusive Growth Initiative, the Digital For SMEs (D4SME) Initiative and the Youth Entrepreneurship Policy Academy (YEPA). Under Ms Kamal-Chaoui’s leadership, the Centre has developed global standards to advance quality and sustainable subnational infrastructure through the OECD Council Recommendation on Effective Public Investment across Levels of Government and the G20-OECD Policy Toolkit to Mobilise Funding and Financing for Inclusive and Quality Infrastructure Investment in Regions and Cities and G20 Principles for Financing Cities of Tomorrow, endorsed by G20 leaders. Ms Kamal-Chaoui. Ms. Kamal-Chaoui holds Master’s degrees in Macroeconomics and Foreign languages and was awarded "Women of the Decade in Enterprise and Leadership" by the Women's Economic Forum.
