Description

Dr. Shunsuke Kondo obtained a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree and a Doctor of Engineering in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Tokyo in 1965, 1967 and 1970, respectively. Dr. Kondo became a Lecturer in 1970, then an Associate Professor in 1971 and a Professor of Nuclear Engineering in The University of Tokyo in 1984 and remained there until he was appointed by Prime Minister as the Chairman of Japan’s Atomic Energy Commission in 2004, of which business was to act as a guardian of the fundamental principles for Japan to promote the research, development and utilization of atomic energy, deciding basic policies for that purposes. He worked for the Government at that position until 2014. Mr Kondo has been president of the Nuclear Waste Management Organization of Japan since 2014, of which mission is to implement safe geological disposal of higher activity radioactive waste in Japan.
