Mónica García Gómez was born in Madrid in January 16th, 1974. She is Minister of Health of Spain since November 21st, 2023. She holds a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the Complutense University of Madrid. She is specialist in Anesthesiology and Resuscitation from the Hospital 12 de Octubre (Madrid). She also has a Master's degree in Clinical Management from the National School of Health. Since 2015, Ms. Mónica García Gómez has been a member of the Madrid Parliamentary Assembly, representing the political party “Más Madrid”. During 2021 regional elections, she ran, for the first time, as a candidate for the Madrid Presidency and she ran again for the regional elections of May 28th, 2023. Before that, Ms. García Gómez worked as anesthesiologist at the Hospital “12 de Octubre” (Madrid). During the COVID-19 pandemic, she combined her work at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Hospital 12 de Octubre with her duties as a member of Madrid Parliamentary Assembly. From 2012 and 2013, Ms. García Gómez was an activist and spokeswoman in the Marea Blanca, a movement that began in the Community of Madrid in 2012.
