Mohammed Azman
President
Dr Azman was elected the 17th President of the ISSA during the World Social Security Forum 2022 in Morocco. As a social security practitioner, he aspires to ensure to make this world a better place where no one is left behind. Dr Azman became the first medical doctor employed by the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) of Malaysia and was promoted to Deputy Chief Executive (Operations) in 2011, and finally to CEO in 2015.
Under his leadership, PERKESO initiated various innovations and reforms, which includes the extension of coverage from formal workers to other working populations, such as government contract, self-employed, foreign and domestic workers. He was also instrumental in the introduction of the Employment Insurance System in Malaysia, which enabled strong linkages between social security and labour market interventions for vulnerable people.
Dr Azman grew up in the state of Pahang, Malaysia and pursued his medical degree at the University of Malaya from 1987 to 1992 and specialized in Occupational Medicine at Royal College of Physicians,
Ireland in 1997. He was conferred with a Fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians, Ireland in 2011. Currently, Dr Azman is also an Adjunct Professor at two Malaysian universities: Universiti Utara Malaysia and Universiti Sains Malaysia.
