Chairperson of the Workers’ Group and Vice-Chairperson of International Labour Organization’s Governing Body

Description

Catelene Passchier (1954) is the Chair of the Workers’ group in the International Labour Organisation (ILO) since June 2017, and in that capacity also the Vice-chair of the ILO’s Governing Body. In addition to her ILO responsibilities, she is the Chair of the Netherlands’ National Contact Point for the OECD Guidelines, and vice-chair of the board of the Fair Wear Foundation. She studied law at Utrecht University and started her career as a barrister in Amsterdam. She became a legal adviser for the Dutch Confederation of Trade Unions FNV in 1988, and was elected Confederal Secretary of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) in Brussels in 2003. In 2010, she joined the executive board of the FNV, and until May 2017 she was its vice president. In that capacity she was responsible among other things for European policy, international trade, labour law and industrial relations, migration and equality/diversity.
