Description

Eric Lambin, a geographer and environmental scientist, divides his time between the UCLouvain (Belgium) and Stanford University, were he occupies the Ishiyama Provostial Professorship at the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability and the Woods Institute for the Environment. His research tries to better understand causes and impacts of land use changes in different parts of the world. He was Chair of the international scientific project Land Use and Land Cover Change (LUCC) from 1999 to 2005. He was awarded the 2009 Francqui Prize, the 2014 Volvo Environment Prize, and the 2019 Blue Planet Prize. He is International Fellow at the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and member of four Academies of Science in Europe. Since 2021, he is also member of the Group of Chief Scientific Advisors to the European Commission. Eric Lambin is taking a leave of absence from Stanford University for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 academic years to focus on his work in Europe.
