Description
Alberto Gago Fernández is currently Director of the Office for a Digital Spain 2030 and International Relations at the Secretary of State for Digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence in Spain. In his current role, he is responsible for the definition of the digital transformation strategies, the deployment of strategic projects such as the AI Sandbox and the international representation of the Secretary of State in different international fora. He is also a member of the Presidency Board of the European Startup Nations Alliance.
Specialised in global and European digital affairs, artificial intelligence, and the data economy, he was the strategy and international relations advisor of the Secretary of State until 2024. During that time, he participated in the creation of the Gaia-X Hub Spain, in the development of the Agency for the Supervision of AI and in the negotiation of the European Tech Champions Initiative. Until 2020, he was a Policy Officer in DG CNECT’s Data Policy and Innovation unit at the European Commission. He has extensive experience in the design and implementation of legislation, public policies and projects related to artificial intelligence, digital, and data at national and European level. Finally, he holds several MA degrees in European Law, International Relations and Counterterrorism Policy and Communications.
