Description

Karina Ufert is the CEO of EuroCham Myanmar, an independent business association representing over 125 European companies. With her team in Yangon, she guides the companies to navigate the complexities of operating in Myanmar while delivering an impact on supporting jobs and livelihoods. She has been living and working in Myanmar since 2013. Karina has a strong track record in pioneering sustainability initiatives in Myanmar, including setting up the first certified organic cotton farming project with 200 smallholders for a major Indian home textile brand and achieving the first Fair for Life certification for a local tea exporter group. Karina spent several years living and working in rural areas of Myanmar, supporting small and medium enterprises to upgrade their processes and facilities to increase their competitiveness in the international markets. She also advised on policy reforms, including the National Export Plan for primary agricultural commodities and the commercialisation of the largest state-owned bank. Before Myanmar, Karina worked in tertiary education sector. She has extensive experience in skills and competence development, recognition frameworks and quality assurance of education, including leading thematic programmes in Eastern Europe, Western Balkans and the Middle East. In 2012-13, Karina was elected President of the European Students Union, representing almost 20 million European students in over 40 countries. She is a Lithuanian national with an education background in Social Work and Counselling.
