Anant Ahuja

Shahi Exports

Director, ESG and Sustainability

Description

Anant is also the Head of Organizational Development (OD) at Shahi Exports, India’s largest apparel manufacturer employing over 100,000 people. Started by his grandmother in 1975, Shahi has always placed employment and advancement of women at the core of its business. Since 2013, Shahi has been establishing training centers across the country to skill and increase the employability of rural populations, with a focus on increasing female labor force participation. At present, Shahi runs 80+ centers across India and has trained 44,000+ women. The company has set a target to train 65,000 women by 2024. Since 2012, Anant has been spearheading positive change across the business through innovation and strategy to align the company’s growth with the development of people, community, and the environment. Anant’s belief that the private sector is a critical lever for development and sustainability led him to start Good Business Lab (GBL), a labor innovation company that uses rigorous academic research to find common ground between worker wellbeing and business interests. He believes an evidence-based approach to business sustainability can move worker wellbeing programs out of the realm of charity or philanthropy and into the heart of business strategy. Currently Anant is serving as a Board member for Better Buying Institute. He is also on the advisory board for the Responsible Sourcing Network’s (RSN) initiative, YESS: Yarn Ethically & Sustainably Sourced, working to drive forced labor out of the cotton fabric value chain. Anant has graduated with a B.A. in Political Science and Economics from the University of Pennsylvania and was a part of the NITI Aayog’s “Champions of Change” initiative.
