Description

Public sector auditors operate in increasingly complex environments, where emerging risks, constrained resources, and heightened expectations demand stronger collaboration and innovation. The Auditors Alliance side event will bring together internal and external public sector auditors from all levels of government to explore how collaboration, innovation, and peer learning can strengthen audit practice in an increasingly complex environment. It will feature three sessions designed for auditors, oversight bodies, and policymakers seeking practical insights and good practices. Among these, the Strengthening Accountability Ecosystems: Starting with SAI Independence session will examine the vital role of independent supreme audit institutions in credible and resilient accountability systems. Drawing on the IDI-OECD Global Project on SAI Independence, the session will bring together SAI leaders, oversight bodies, international organisations, development partners, and policymakers to explore the formal and informal dynamics shaping autonomy. Panellists will discuss current pressures, from tightening fiscal contexts to declining public trust, and consider opportunities to reinforce SAI independence as a cornerstone of strong accountability ecosystems.
