Description

José Luis Escrivá is the Spanish Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migrations since January 2020. He started his career as an economist at the Bank of Spain, where he held various positions in the Research Department, and later in Europe, where he actively participated in the process of monetary integration as an adviser to the European Monetary Institute since 1993. With the start of the Monetary Union in 1999 he became Head of the Monetary Policy Division of the European Central Bank. Between 2004 and 2012 he worked at the BBVA banking group, first as its global Chief-Economist and Director of the Research Department, and from 2010 as the Managing Director responsible for Global Public Finance. Between 2012 and 2014 he became the Chief Representative for the Americas at the Basel-based Bank for International Settlements. In March 2014 he was became the first President of the newly created Spanish Agency for Fiscal Responsibility (AIREF). During his mandate, he also served as Chair of the EU Network of Independent Fiscal Institutions.
