Biography

Specialized in good governance, integrity and public administration, Violeta Alexandru has extensive experience in project management covering public finances, social services, budgetary allocation, public procurement, transparent decision-making, and public integrity. In 2011 she founded the Institute for Public Policy, a leading Romanian think tank. In 2016 she was appointed Minister of Public Consultation and Civic Dialogue, focusing on open and transparent governance and civil society participation. In Nov 2019 she became Minister of Labor and Social Protection, leading reforms on pensions, labor market regulation, job protection during the 2020 pandemic, while ensuring social services for vulnerable groups. Since 2020, she has continued her work in Parliament, and in March 2025 was elected chair of the Joint Special Committee supporting Romania’s OECD accession. She holds two master’s degrees: Governance & Institutional Development and International Affairs & Conflict Management.
