Biography
Kris Declercq (born in Ostend on 12 June 1972) is a Belgian politician and legal expert. He has been Mayor of Roeselare since March 2016 and a member of the municipal council since 2007, after serving as alderman from 2006 to 2016. From 2019 to 2024 he chaired the board of the West Flanders Intermunicipal Association (WVI) and has been a member of the Flemish Parliament for CD&V since October 2024. Trained in law and international relations, Declercq built a long career as an adviser to senior Belgian leaders, including Yves Leterme, Herman Van Rompuy and Jean-Luc Dehaene, and practiced as a lawyer until 2023. His policy interests focus on security, the economy, urban policy, local governance, state reform and justice.
