Biography
Barry Ward is a Fine Gael TD (Member of Dáil Éireann, Ireland’s Lower House of the Oireachtas [Parliament]). Formerly a Senator, Barry has been in elected politics since 2009, previously having served at local government level, on Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council. He is currently the Chair of the Oireachtas Committee on European Union Affairs and a former Chair of the Oireachtas Justice Committee.
From the Dún Laoghaire area, in south Dublin, Barry is a Senior Counsel (senior barrister-at-law/advocate)qualified in Ireland, Northern Ireland, and England & Wales, and is Counsel before the International Criminal Court. He was previously chief legal adviser to Enda Kenny TD (Taoiseach 2011-2018); he speaks Irish, English and French and is the lead on Irish-French parliamentary relations.
