Description
Lachlan has specialized in indirect taxes for over 25 years across 3 countries – in Australia, China and more recently, in Canada. He has led projects for the implementation of GST/VAT in several countries, and has been at the forefront of changes in indirect tax systems in areas like financial services, the digital economy, and e-invoicing.
Lachlan is KPMG’s Global Head of Indirect Taxes and also the Global Head of Data for Tax & Legal. In these global roles, Lachlan leads a team of over 4,000 tax professionals around the world. In 2020 he was named the Asia Pacific Indirect Tax Advisor of the Year by International Tax Review.
Lachlan is the author or co-author of numerous publications, including: ‘The Future of Indirect Taxes to 2030’, the ‘Tax Function of the Future’, and ‘The use of generative AI tools in the Tax Profession – Fear, Foe or Friend”, published by British Tax Review in 2023.
Lachlan also plays an active role in Tax Technology, and is the lead partner responsible for the design, development and implementation of KPMG’s BEPS2.0 Pillar 2 technology.
Early in his career Lachlan co-authored the leading text on Capital Gains Tax in Australia, and served as the Associate to the Honourable Justice Mason, the President of the NSW Court of Appeal. Lachlan is a lawyer admitted to practice in both NSW, Australia, and Ontario, Canada. Lachlan currently also serves as the National Practice Leader for KPMG’s affiliated law firm in Canada.
