Deputy Director-General for External Economic Relations, Trade Policy and America at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy
Since the beginning of his work in the public sector in 1994 he has mainly focussed on external economic policy issues, including economic relations
with Southern Africa, export financing and export credit insurance, promotion of foreign trade and investment and trade policy. He spent five years at the Permanent Mission of the Federal Republic of Germany to the World Trade Organisation in Geneva and two years in the External Economic Policy Division of the Federal Chancellery. From 2011 to 2018 he was Head of the Division responsible for the budget of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs. From 2018 to 2024 he was Deputy Director-General for Trade Policy and the Americas. And from 2024 to 2025 he has been Director-General for External Economic Policy.
Christian Forwick grew up in Spain and Germany. He studied law in Quito, Saarbrücken, Münster, Geneva and Hamburg. As part of his doctorate (dr. jur) he spent a year at the Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.
He is married and has a son and a daughter.
