Biography

Kamil Šaško is a Slovak investment banker and politician with an extensive career in banking, public administration, and European institutions. He is current Minister of Health of the Slovak Republic and a member of the Hlas-SD party. Born on November 5, 1985, in Poprad, he grew up in Bratislava. He attended high school in the USA and played basketball; after an injury, he returned to Europe. He completed his bachelor's degree in the United Kingdom (University of Sussex, majoring in Applied Science and Business Management with a focus on mathematics). He subsequently obtained a Master of Science degree in Finance – Investment Banking from the London School of Business and Finance. From 2013, he worked as a portfolio manager at Otto Money in London, and later as a private banker at Tatra banka in Bratislava. Between 2014 and 2015, he worked at the Ministry of Finance of the Slovak Republic as a Director-General in the Financial Market Section. Between 2015 and 2020, he served as a financial attaché and counselor of the Slovak Republic to the European Union in Brussels, where he also functioned as a chairman of EU Council working groups and a member of the Center for Financial Innovation. From 2020, he worked at the National Bank of Slovakia as an expert in regulation and supervision. Before assuming the post of Minister of Health, he served as State Secretary at the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic, where he focused on energy policy, decarbonization, economic competition, and industrial development. He was appointed to the office of Minister of Health of the Slovak Republic on October 10, 2024.
