Description

Juan Alberti is the founder of Megaproject Lab and an economist specialising in infrastructure governance and public investment management. His advisory and research work with the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and the Inter-American Development Bank spans megaproject planning, appraisal and delivery, institutional analysis and fiscal risk management. He holds a PhD from University College London and a master’s degree in Infrastructure Planning and Management from the University of Washington. Through Megaproject Lab, he examines how political and institutional conditions interact with technical, contractual and fiscal risks throughout the infrastructure project lifecycle, drawing on a database of 500 megaprojects across 100 countries. Building on this research, he leads the development of Megaproject Pilot, the Lab’s AI-assisted decision-support tool designed to help infrastructure decision-makers across the public and private sectors explore alternative implementation strategies and make risks and trade-offs explicit. This work connects international project evidence with practical decision-making, using AI to strengthen analysis and support expert judgement.
