Description
James Rhee is a proud West Australian entrepreneur and professional engineer with a deep Korean and Japanese heritage. With nearly three decades of WA experience, James has been a pioneering project developer across the resources and construction sectors, with a strong focus on renewable energy and sustainability.
In 2010, James led the design and implementation of Australia’s first major mine-site hybrid renewable energy system—an award-winning integration of solar, wind, and battery energy storage systems (BESS) that provided reliable, clean power to remote mining operations. This innovative project received both national and international recognition, cementing his reputation as a leader in clean energy solutions.
James was also a founding executive in a joint venture between BGC Australia and South Korea’s POSCO Group. This partnership delivered landmark developments such as the US$5.8 billion Roy Hill Iron Ore Project (ECI/EPC) and the A$350 million Westin Hotel in Perth.
Today, James channels his passion for sustainability and his deep industry relationships into Progressive Green Solutions (PGS). PGS is currently developing the world’s largest green iron project in Geraldton, Mid-West, Western Australia—powered entirely by renewable energy and green hydrogen.
