Julia Wanjiru from the OECD CEFIM team is leading a new project with South Africa titled “Overcoming Financial and Capacity Barriers for Clean Small-Scale Enterprises.” The initiative supports the South African government in advancing a just transition, focusing on the Western Cape and Mpumalanga provinces, including coal-dependent communities. Julia previously led the OECD Green Growth Policy Review of Egypt and several Environmental Performance Reviews. An economist by training, she brings over 20 years of experience working with African economies, particularly in the Sahel and West Africa, and has focused on a wide range of policy issues, including climate policies, water, energy, food systems and rural-urban development.
