Description

Dr. Sandra Guzmán Luna is an ecofeminist and international expert in low-carbon development and climate finance. She served as Director General of Climate Change Policies at Mexico’s Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) and is the founder and director of the Climate Finance Group for Latin America and the Caribbean (GFLAC). She holds a Ph.D. in Politics from the University of York, a master’s in Environmental Policy and Regulation from the London School of Economics, and a specialization in Sustainable Finance from the University of Oxford. She also studied energy and environmental policy at FLACSO and holds a bachelor’s in International Relations from UNAM. In 2018, she became the first Mexican woman selected for the Homeward Bound project, traveling to Antarctica to document the impacts of climate change. She returned in 2025 as part of the academic team for the #HBTransform program, promoting women’s climate leadership and contributing to scientific research in the region. Her work has earned multiple accolades, including being named “Intellectual of the Year” by Marie Claire (2018), selected as a global “Change Maker” by the UK government’s Chevening Scholarships (2019), and recognised by Forbes (2023) as one of Mexico’s 30 most sustainable minds.
