Description
Dr. Philipp Behrens has worked for the Federal Environment Ministry (BMU) for 15 years before he joined the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) in 2022. He started his ministerial career in the BMU in the climate division and has since worked in various national, European and international areas.
Before taking over the IKI in 2019, the law graduate with a doctorate in public international law headed the Minister's Cabinet Affairs Unit for five years. Since 2022 the IKI has been coordinated by BMWK and jointly implemented by the three departments BMWK, BMUV and the Federal foreign office. From November of 2025 the IKI is back in Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN) and in this new setting Philipp is in charge of the overall coordination of the IKI.
