Description

Professor Richard Kitney is Professor of Biomedical Systems Engineering at Imperial College London and Co-Director of SynbiCITE, the UK’s national centre for the industrial translation of engineering biology. A Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Royal Society of Edinburgh, he has played a central role in shaping the UK’s strategic development of synthetic biology, including co-authoring the UK Government’s Synthetic Biology Roadmaps and serving on the Ministerial Leadership Council for Engineering Biology (2014–2024). He has long-standing experience in supporting the growth of biotechnology start-ups and SMEs, including co-founding SynBioVen, a venture fund for early-stage engineering biology companies. Professor Kitney has published extensively across engineering biology, biomedical systems, and translational research.
