Helder Vasconcelos is Vice-Rector at Porto University, President of the Board of Directors at UPTEC (the Scientific and Technological Park at University of Porto) and Full Professor of Economics at University of Porto.
From 2012 until 2017, he served as Executive Member of the Board of ANACOM, the Portuguese Regulatory Authority for Telecommunications and Postal Services.
He obtained his PhD from the European University Institute, in 2002. He was previously Associate Professor at Universidade Católica Portuguesa (2007-2011), Assistant Professor at Università Bocconi (2003-2007) and Post-doctoral Research Fellow at the Institut D’Economie Industrielle (IDEI), University of Toulouse (2002-2003). He has received The International Journal of Industrial Organization Best Paper Award both in 2015 and in 2006, and the 2005 Industrial Organization Society’s Best Paper/Younger Scholar Award.
His main areas of research are industrial organisation and in particular competition policy and regulation. His work has been published in leading international economic journals, including the Economic Journal, the RAND Journal of Economics, the Journal of Economics & Management Strategy, the Journal of Industrial Economics and the International Journal of Industrial Organization.
Over time, he has acted as consultant for both private and public entities, in the areas of competition policy and regulation
