Description
Marina Bassi is the Lead Education Economist for Latin America and the Caribbean at the World Bank, where she oversees analytical and operational work to strengthen human capital across the region. She has led multisectoral programs and high-level policy dialogue in Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa, with expertise in early childhood development, teaching practices, gender gaps in education, and skills for work. Prior to her current role, she held leadership roles at the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank, including Human Development Program Leader for Central America and the Dominican Republic and Adviser to the IDB Vice-President for Sectors and Knowledge. She has published in recognized academic journals and is co-author of influential books including Disconnected: Education, Skills and Employment in Latin America and The Fast Track to New Skills. Marina holds a PhD in Economics from the University of California, Los Angeles.
