Biography
Fernando Marani is the Program Director of Justice, Inclusion, and Equality at New York University’s Center on International Cooperation (CIC), where he co-leads the Pathfinders for Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies initiative. In this role, he focuses on promoting people-centered justice, addressing inequality, and strengthening global governance as essential foundations for sustainable development and peace.
Before joining NYU, Fernando served as Deputy Chef de Cabinet and Senior Legal Adviser to four Presidents of the United Nations General Assembly between 2020 and 2023, providing strategic, legal, and political guidance on key multilateral negotiations and institutional reforms.
A career diplomat from Argentina for two decades, Fernando has represented his country in The Hague and New York, working on issues of international law, human rights, and global governance. His diplomatic career includes serving as Legal Adviser at the International Court of Justice, the Embassy of Argentina in the Netherlands, and the Permanent Mission of Argentina to the United Nations. He has also chaired multiple international forums, including the Special Commission of the Hague Conference on Private International Law, the Group of Friends of the International Criminal Court, and the UN LGBTI Core Group, promoting justice, inclusion, and accountability across the multilateral system.
Fernando holds a Juris Doctor degree from the Universidad Nacional del Litoral and completed advanced diplomatic training at Argentina’s National Foreign Service Institute (ISEN) and Brazil’s Rio Branco Institute.
