Biography
Professor Karim Benyekhlef has been a member of the Faculty of Law at the Université de Montréal since 1989 and of the Québec Bar since 1985. He is the Director of the Cyberjustice Laboratory, which he founded in 2010, and holds the Lexum Research Chair on Legal Information. Under his leadership, the Laboratory received the Québec Bar’s Mérite Innovation Award in 2015.
A pioneer in the field of online dispute resolution, Professor Benyekhlef founded Lex Electronica, the first French-language online law journal, and launched early ODR projects such as CyberTribunal and ECODIR. He led the SSHRC-funded Rethinking Procedural Law: Towards Cyberjustice initiative and now heads the Autonomy through Cyberjustice Technologies and Artificial Intelligence (ACT) project, a global partnership aiming to enhance access to justice through AI.
He is the author of more than 20 books and 80 articles, including AI and Law: A Critical Overview (2021).
